John Elderfounded the world’s most experienced data science company, Elder Research, 25 in 1995. He has led teams to solve
tough challenges in areas as diverse as timing markets, detecting fraud, revealing insider threats, forecasting events, diagnosing
illness, and discovering a new drug. John has co-authored three books – on data mining,text mining, andensembles – two of which
won the PROSE “book of the year” in Mathematics or Computer Science. He was a discoverer of the target shuffling and ensemble
breakthroughs, chairs international conferences, and is a popular keynote speaker, illuminating complex topics with clarity and
humor. Dr. Elder is an (occasional) Adjunct Professor of Engineering at the University of Virginia and a frequent invited lecturer at the
Darden Business School. He was honored to serve five years, at the request of President Bush, on a panel to guide technology for
national security. On a personal note, John is grateful to be a follower of Christ and the father of five.
